Quote of the Week

The secret of contentment is knowing how to enjoy what you have, and to be able to lose all desire for things beyond your reach.”

– Yutang Lin

How many times do we say things like:

If only I had x, then I would be happy…

As soon I am done x, then I can get to y….

When my kids sleep through the night…

When my kids can be left alone…

When my kids move out…

When I make more money…

When I lose 10 pounds….

When I am caught up on sleep…

When I finish this project…

The next time…

When I feel better…

When I have more time…

When I’m finished school…

If I had this degree…

If I had a different job…

What happens if these things never happen? What happens if they do happen and they don’t go as expected, or you don’t feel the way you thought you would? What happens if everything works out exactly as planned and you are still not contented?

Stop.

Just focus on now.

Enjoy it.

Set goals, raise the bar, play your best game, give it your all, work hard.

But; appreciate, show gratitude, savour and enjoy what you have now. Don’t assume it will be better when…. because chances are it won’t be unless you can find a way to make it better in the exact circumstance you are in.
