The most unbelievable thing happened on our last day in the Outer Banks that I just have to share.
I mean UNBELIEVABLE!!
(Now, you need to first know the story of my pink ball. You can read about it here.)
We were just coming out of the ocean for the last time, on our last day, after jumping waves for a few hours.
We were talking about how long it would be before we’d be at the ocean again (sadly, a long time).
All of a sudden, Zach yelled, “The pink ball!”
There, being pushed in from the tide, was a pink ball.
A giant pink ball with white swirls.
Just like pink ball I had lost as child in Maine, and Zach had tried to replace for me (first by making one many years ago, and then by getting me one from Maine when he was on vacation with his Dad. You really do need to read the history of this pink ball, here, if you haven’t already).
Josh ran over to get it.
We oohed and ahhed, and laughed and were just amazed! Where did this ball come from? Completely out of the blue, out of the ocean! (We were all so amazed, we didn’t get too many pics).
Of course, we asked the people around us if it was their ball.
It did not seem to belong to anyone! Can you believe it? What are the chances?
The kids begged us to take it home (even though we really had no room), but we had to say yes! I mean, c’mon, what are the chances for a pink ball to come floating in right in front of us? A pink ball with such a history!?
It’s a sign. A sign for sure. But of what? A sign that everything comes full circle?
I just hope that little child who has now lost his/her pink ball will get the pay back like I have many times over in the future.
I think I’m going to hang it on my Christmas tree.
Any ideas of what kind of sign it could be?
Seriously that just gave me chills, but how awesome that you found this pink ball. I totally believe in signs, but would love to know what this sign meant.
It really was quite a moment. I love some if the interpretations of signs people have been suggesting in comments though!
What an amazing story! I’m with Janine…it’s a sign on something…I’d love to know what! But if nothing else, it’s a very cool story!
Very cool, indeed! Maybe just knowing it is a sign of something is enough! It was a good thing no matter what!
WOW!! That is the BEST story ever!! I love it! :)-Ashley
I know, eh?!?!
Holy crap!!!! That is INSANE!!! It’s definitely a sign. A GOOD one. I’m sure it will reveal itself in time. So amazingly awesome!!!
I think it’s insane too! Really blew my mind!
I think it’s a sign of God showing you his love. Nobody else but your family could appreciate that pink ball as much. How awesomely cool to end your vacation time that way. Perfect.
I love this interpretation. You are right – no one else could have appreciated or even noticed this pink ball. My kids are still in awe over it!
Leah, that is insane! Only you! I think since you’re so open to love and change and growth, well, good things come to you. It seems like a sign of some sort. A wonderful sign. I read your story of the pink ball to my husband! Now I need him to wake up so I can tell him this one.
I do feel like I have been blessed with very good things – so perhaps that is it! If I ever meet your husband, I’ll have to introduce myself as the “pink ball woman”!
Best thing that I have read all day – that is so incredible!! I loved your original story about the pink ball and finding that new pink ball seems like the perfect ending to your vacation!!
It completely was the best ending. And the ball at home now reminds of how great our time together was!
That is just so cool! And kudos to you for smooshing it in the car… having traveled to the beach with five children this summer, I know exactly what you mean when you say you had no room. We have yet to purchase a car-top carrier, but it is a necessity for next time.
It was used as a pillow between the little boys! Packing is SO hard!!!! You really need the car car top carrier!!
Oh man, I remember the pink ball story well! How freakishly awesome is that! Not really sure but after following along this splendid family quality time, I’d just chalk it up to God smiling on you for being a good Mother to all in your family & taking time out for just you all this week. I have enjoyed! You can go home now 🙂
It will look perfect on the Xmas tree!
I love your interpretation! I’m going with that too!!
God uses butterflies for me. Your is the pink ball. A reminder that all things are in His Perfect Plan!!! His way of showing you that He is personal and privately knows what would take your breath away…
Oh, how I just love this story!!!!!! And the continued “part 2, part 3, part 4,…..”
This is such a beautiful way of looking at it. His plan is so much better than mine. And He is so personal! Love that you get butterflies!!
So amazing. I loved the story of your pink ball. Perhaps it’s a message of “Good job, Leah, you are raising some wonderful and thoughtful kids.”
I hope that’s the message! I’m blessed to have the opportunity to be in these kids’ lives. They are awesome!
So amazing. I loved the story of your pink ball. Perhaps it’s a message of “Good job, Leah, you are raising some wonderful and thoughtful kids.”
This is crazy, but….I read your post yesterday morning and “ooohed” and “ahhed” as I read it because I remember your pink ball story – but then I did not have time to comment. Yesterday afternoon, I went to a local pool with a few new friends that I’ve met down here and their kids and guess what? A pink ball appeared at the pool. No one knows exactly where it came from or who brought it or left it there. It just sort of appeared. I thought of you immediately. As far as signs go, I think it’s a good sign for both of us!
Amazing! That’s pretty crazy alright! The legend of the pink ball! It is a sign for good things – that’s for sure!
Oh my gosh, Leah, it’s YOUR pink ball! You can’t make this stuff up. And how crazy is it that Ilene found one too? It’s gotta be a good sign. How could a pink ball not be a good sign?
It’s pretty crazy that she found one too! “In search of the pink ball” – I should start a website where people can report their sightings of the pink ball!
That is amazing! And I LOVE that your son made you one when he was younger and put it on your pillow. Little kids can be so sweet and loving. Makes me thing of something my own son would do. 🙂
I think it’s one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done for me – and it was during such a dark time of my life – so it was even more special. Then to have the story keep going…amazing!
When things like that happen – it is quite interesting in what in means – I am writing like a doobface. Ok. Let me start again. Sometimes we should just accept the blessing in front of us without questioning what they mean. (Not that you are wrong for wondering – lol – oh man. This comment is not going well at all!)
Anyways, I think it means that you were supposed to have a “pink ball” – or just a wonderful moment with your family to remember the past and while living in the present! 🙂
LOL – sometimes, you are right. It’s just a wonderful moment to have!
I think it’s a sign that the part of you that’s been wounded by loss (your inner child on the beach who lost her ball, your later self who experienced abandonment) is healing/healed. It’s not a coincidence that the ball came back to you when you were with your family –the people you’ve built the white picket fence around and who make you whole!
So true – I was thinking about how cool it was that we were all there together to experience it – it would not have been the same had someone been missing from our family and just heard about it. I am glad that we all share this amazing story. And I sort of do feel like things have come full circle in so many ways!
Ooooh, I got chills. I think it is a sign that if you believe, nothing is really gone forever. Maybe God’s way of telling you He is with you. Cardinals do it for me. There is a song that I hear from time to time and it reminds me of my grandparents that have passed away. I think that is a sign, maybe that I need to think about easier times. I know whenever I see a pink ball, I am going to think of you. 🙂
