I love how Nephi is crying unto the Lord and his heart was softened. Our hearts have to be softened in order to receive guidance. I also love in Psals how we are to acknowledge him in all the ways – not in some or a few ways – but all – and he will direct us

D&C 6:14 – Verily, verily, I say unto thee, blessed art thou for what thou hast done; for thou hast inquired of me, and behold, as often as thou hast inquired thou hast received instruction of my Spirit. If it had not been so, thou wouldst not have come to the place where thou art at this time.
I tie guidance strongly with humility. We can only be directed or guided when we want to, it’s so important for our growth as disciples. It may seem like counterproductive or a hit to your ego to be told guidance that you may not agree with. However, the ego punch may be a sign that you should listen and give the advice a chance.
