12 Days of Christmas – Day 2

“On the second day of Christmas my Saviour gave to me”:

NOURISHMENT:

John 6:35
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the abread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never bthirst.”

I love this quote by Ezra Taft Benson: “Now the spirit, as well as the body, is in need of constant nourishment. Yesterday’s meal is not enough to sustain today’s needs.”

How silly it would be to assume that yesterday’s meal would be enough to sustain us today. Or the really good meal on the weekend where we were so full… and yet, do we not do this spiritually often? We may feast, then resort to starving ourselves. Our Spirits need nourishing on a daily basis – not yearly, not monthly, not even weekly is enough. We must nourish daily – at minimum.

Here are my extra 3 scriptures:

John 4:13-15: 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again, 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never athirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water bspringing up into ceverlasting life. 15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

( I love how in this last version she right away said to him : Give me the water. She believed him and she acted straight away.)

Moroni 6:4 : And after they had been received unto baptism, and were wrought upon and acleansed by the power of the Holy Ghost, they were numbered among the people of the bchurch of Christ; and their cnames were taken, that they might be remembered and nourished by the good word of God, to keep them in the right way, to keep them continually dwatchful unto prayer, erelying alone upon the merits of Christ, who was the author and the finisher of their faith.

John 21:15-17: ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, aFeed my sheep. 17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, aFeed my bsheep.

(This one especially touches my heart this year as it is exactly what Zach is out there doing on his mission)

Gabe’s extra scriptures and commentary:

1 Nephi 17:3 – And thus we see that the commandments of God must be fulfilled. And if it so be that the children of men keep the commandments of God he doth nourish them, and strengthen them, and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them; wherefore, he did provide means for us while we did sojourn in the wilderness.

1 Timothy 4:6 – If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

Jacob 5:71 – And the Lord of the vineyard said unto them: Go to, and labor in the vineyard, with your might. For behold, this is the last time that I shall nourish my vineyard; for the end is nigh at hand, and the season speedily cometh; and if ye labor with your might with me ye shall have joy in the fruit which I shall lay up unto myself against the time which will soon come.

It’s interesting that in life often with literal needs that we only appreciate them when we’re dire need or there is scarcity, and when we are content we seem to put aside the blessings of nourishment, whether literal or spiritual. But Heavenly Father doesn’t withhold blessings for only in times of need. And we need to recognize and always be humble for the daily and micro blessings that we’re given even if on the very short horizon we can see, there is no obstacles to foresee.

Shannon’s extra Scriptures and commentary

Jacob 7:15  And it came to pass that when I, Jacob, had spoken these words, the power of the Lord came upon him, insomuch that he fell to the earth. And it came to pass that he was nourished for the space of many days.

Alma 32:40 And thus, if ye will not nourish the word, looking forward with an eye of faith to the fruit thereof, ye can never pluck of the fruit of the tree of life.

Mosiah 23:18 Therefore they did watch over their people, and did nourish them with things pertaining to righteousness.

My dad has always talked about the importance of feeding our spirits is just as important as feeding our bodies, when we nourish our spirits we are mentally and spiritually stronger and able to withstand better the trials and difficulties of life, just as we are when we are physically fed

Zandra’s extra scriptures and commentary

1 Nephi 17:3 (already quoted above)

Alma 32:37 And behold, as the tree beginneth to grow, ye will say: Let us nourish it with great care, that it may get root, that it may grow up, and bring forth fruit unto us. And now behold, if ye nourish it with much care it will get root, and grow up, and bring forth fruit.

Matthew 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

These scriptures to me all just represent hard work, faith and blessings from God. if we choose to nourish ourselves through the lords words and by doing his work, we can grow and grow into someone that only god could allow for us to be. I really just love doing small acts of kindness and nourishing others because it helps benefit them and can help me appreciate the work of the lord that has been put into my place

Sam’s extra scripture : 1Timothy 4:6 (already quoted)

Zach’s extra scriptures:

John 4:14 (already quoted)

Alma 5:34 Yea, he saith: aCome unto me and ye shall partake of the bfruit of the tree of life; yea, ye shall eat and drink of the cbreadand the waters of life dfreely;

2 Nephi 31:20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a asteadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of bhope, and a clove of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and dendure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eeternal life.
