12 Days of Christmas – Day 8

“On the eighth day of Christmas my Saviour gave to me” :

FORGIVENESS

Isaiah 1:18″Come now, and let us areason together, saith the Lord: though your bsins be as scarlet, they shall be as cwhite as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

My extra scriptures:

Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

D&C 64:8-11(esp 10)  My disciples, in days of old, sought occasion against one another and forgave not one another in their hearts; and for this evil they were afflicted and sorely chastened.
9 Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.
10 I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.
11 And ye ought to say in your hearts—let God judge between me and thee, and reward thee according to thy deeds.

Matt 6:14-15 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
“But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

I especially love when he says “I the Lord will forgive him I will forgive that you are required to forgive everybody”. I always hear that scripture echoing in my mind when I feel justified for being offended, angry, upset, betrayed, and justified in not forgiving. It reminds me that forgiveness really has nothing to do with the other person but it’s all about me personally and my relationship with God and the accountability I will have one day standing in front of Him. It’s pretty straightforward. I’m not gonna be able to stand in front of him and give him my whole song and dance as to why I am right:)) He simply is going to say I told you you had to forgive everybody plain and simple. It’s not my job to enforce my version of justice. It’s my job to allow the atonement to work in everyone’s lives, especially my own.

Zandra’s extra scriptures

Mosiah 26:22 For behold, this is my church; whosoever is baptized shall be baptized unto repentance. And whomsoever ye receive shall believe in my name; and him will I freely forgive.

D&C 84:61 For I will forgive you of your sins with this commandment—that you remain steadfast in your minds in solemnity and the spirit of prayer, in bearing testimony to all the world of those things which are communicated unto you.

D&C 98:40 And so on unto the second and third time; and as oft as thine enemy repenteth of the trespass wherewith he has trespassed against thee, thou shalt forgive him, until seventy times seven.

These scriptures are all about having forgiveness by following the lord and but living in a way that is righteous and light.

Shannon’s extra scriptures:

Isaiah 43:25 – I, even I, am he that blotters out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

Jeremiah 33:8 – And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me.

Matthew 6:9 – But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

Zach’s extra scriptures

D&C 58:42-43 Behold, he who has arepented of his bsins, the same is cforgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more. 43 By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins—behold, he will aconfess them and bforsake them.

Luke 7:47-50 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are aforgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. 48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are aforgiven. 49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that aforgiveth sins also?

Matthew 18:21-22 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I aforgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until aseventy times seven.
