Zandra’s Home!

In the middle of December – oh happy day – Zandra flew home from BYU- Hawaii after having a fantastic first semester (and to throw in a full brag – heading back with a full academic scholarship for her winter semester!)

It was a red eye flight so the poor girl was exhausted but she was all smiles:

Reggie was excited to see her:

She was a champ and went to church with us (and said farewell to our new Tahitian missionary friend who who loved (and who Zach had met in the MTC)

We went to see Grammie for a Christmas lunch

Then we came home and decorated some cookies:

So good to have her home for a bit!

We got decorating:

We went to the Christmas market:

Our quote wall (sadly so small this year. so much going on!!) and the 12 days of Christmas we are doing:

“On the tenth day of Christmas my Saviour gave to me”:

STRENGTH

 2 Timothy 4:17:

“Notwithstanding the aLord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.”

Isaiah 40:31
“But they that await upon the Lord shall brenewtheircstrength; they shall mount up with wings as deagles; they shall erun, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Gabe’s extra scriptures:

Revelation 12:10 – And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Romans 5:6 – For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Mark 12:30 – And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

My extra scriptures;

2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Alma 26:12 Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.

Moses 1:20 And it came to pass that Moses began to fear exceedingly; and as he began to fear, he saw the bitterness of hell. Nevertheless, calling upon God, he received strength, and he commanded, saying: Depart from me, Satan, for this one God only will I worship, which is the God of glory.

Zandra’s extra scriptures:

2 Samual 22:33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

Psalm 29:11 Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (repeat)

Zach’s extra scriptures

1 Nephi 7:17 But it came to pass that I prayed unto the Lord, saying: O Lord, according to my faith which is in thee, wilt thou deliver me from the hands of my brethren; yea, even give me astrengththat I may bburst these bands with which I am bound.

Alma 26:12 Yea, I know that I am anothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will bnot boast of myself, but I will cboast of my God, for in his dstrength I can do all ethings; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.

D&C 84:88 And whoso areceiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go bbefore your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my cSpirit shall be in your hearts, and mine dangels round about you, to bear you up.

12 Days of Christmas – Day 9

“On the ninth day of Christmas my Saviour gave to me” :

COMFORT

Isaiah 49:13″aSing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into bsinging, O mountains: for the Lord hath ccomforted his people, and will have dmercy upon his eafflicted.”

Gabe’s extra scriptures:

John 14:18 – I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Romans 15:4 – For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Isaiah 51:3 – For the Lord shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

Shannon’s extra scriptures

Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

3 Nephi 9:13-14 O all ye that are spared because ye were more righteous than they, will ye not now return unto me, and repent of your sins, and be converted, that I may heal you?
14 Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me.

My extra scriptures:

Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

D&C 121:7 My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment;

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

I find Scriptures about comfort so powerful. Who does not need comfort at some time in their life? There are so many times when you feel you just can’t go on, and then there is that small comfort – sometimes in the form of someone else, sometimes in the form of a thought, or sometimes it’s a feeling of warmth or even a physical sensation where you can feel the arms of angels comforting you.

Sam’s extra:

John 16: 7 Neverthelss I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Josh’ s extra:

Mosiah 24:15 The Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.

Rob’s extra:

Jacob 3:1 But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions

D&C 128: 21 And again, the voice of God in the chamber of old Father Whitmer, in Fayette, Seneca county, and at sundry times, and in divers places through all the travels and tribulations of this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! And the voice of Michael, the archangel; the voice of Gabriel, and of Raphael, and of divers angels, from Michael or Adam down to the present time, all declaring their dispensation, their rights, their keys, their honors, their majesty and glory, and the power of their priesthood; giving line upon line, precept upon precept; here a little, and there a little; giving us consolation by holding forth that which is to come, confirming our hope!

John  14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Zandra’s extra scriptures

Isaiah 49:13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

D&C 50:14 To preach my gospel by the Spirit, even the Comforter which was sent forth to teach the truth.

D&C 79:2 And I will send upon him the Comforter, which shall teach him the truth and the way whither he shall go;

These scriptures testify to me that the Holy Ghost is always here to comfort us and guide us through our hard times. We need to believe. The Holy Ghost can also teach us and others around us.

Sam’s extra scriptures

2 Corinthians 1: 3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

2 Corinthians 7:6 Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus

2 Nephi 8:3 For the Lord shall comfort Zion, he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving and the voice of melody

Zach’s extra scriptures

Alma 26:27 Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to aturn back, behold, the Lord bcomforted us, and said: Go amongst thy brethren, the Lamanites, and bear with cpatiencethine dafflictions, and I will give unto you success.

John 14:18 (repeat)

D&C 121:7-10 My son, apeace be unto thy soul; thine badversity and thine afflictions shall be but a csmall moment; And then, if thou aendure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy bfoes. Thy afriends do stand by thee, and they shall hail thee again with warm hearts and friendly hands. 10 Thou art not yet as Job; thy afriends do not contend against thee, neither charge thee with transgression, as they did Job.

12 Days of Christmas – Day 8

“On the eighth day of Christmas my Saviour gave to me” :

FORGIVENESS

Isaiah 1:18″Come now, and let us areason together, saith the Lord: though your bsins be as scarlet, they shall be as cwhite as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

My extra scriptures:

Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

D&C 64:8-11(esp 10)  My disciples, in days of old, sought occasion against one another and forgave not one another in their hearts; and for this evil they were afflicted and sorely chastened.
9 Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.
10 I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.
11 And ye ought to say in your hearts—let God judge between me and thee, and reward thee according to thy deeds.

Matt 6:14-15 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
“But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

I especially love when he says “I the Lord will forgive him I will forgive that you are required to forgive everybody”. I always hear that scripture echoing in my mind when I feel justified for being offended, angry, upset, betrayed, and justified in not forgiving. It reminds me that forgiveness really has nothing to do with the other person but it’s all about me personally and my relationship with God and the accountability I will have one day standing in front of Him. It’s pretty straightforward. I’m not gonna be able to stand in front of him and give him my whole song and dance as to why I am right:)) He simply is going to say I told you you had to forgive everybody plain and simple. It’s not my job to enforce my version of justice. It’s my job to allow the atonement to work in everyone’s lives, especially my own.

Zandra’s extra scriptures

Mosiah 26:22 For behold, this is my church; whosoever is baptized shall be baptized unto repentance. And whomsoever ye receive shall believe in my name; and him will I freely forgive.

D&C 84:61 For I will forgive you of your sins with this commandment—that you remain steadfast in your minds in solemnity and the spirit of prayer, in bearing testimony to all the world of those things which are communicated unto you.

D&C 98:40 And so on unto the second and third time; and as oft as thine enemy repenteth of the trespass wherewith he has trespassed against thee, thou shalt forgive him, until seventy times seven.

These scriptures are all about having forgiveness by following the lord and but living in a way that is righteous and light.

Shannon’s extra scriptures:

Isaiah 43:25 – I, even I, am he that blotters out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

Jeremiah 33:8 – And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me.

Matthew 6:9 – But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

Zach’s extra scriptures

D&C 58:42-43 Behold, he who has arepented of his bsins, the same is cforgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more. 43 By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins—behold, he will aconfess them and bforsake them.

Luke 7:47-50 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are aforgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. 48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are aforgiven. 49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that aforgiveth sins also?

Matthew 18:21-22 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I aforgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until aseventy times seven.

12 Days of Christmas – Day 7

“On the seventh day of Christmas my Saviour gave to me” :

PEACE

John 14:27″aPeace I leave with you, my bpeace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be ctroubled, neither let it be afraid.”

A great quote I wanted to share:

“Our hope is to capture the true spirit of Christmas for ourselves and for those we love. That spirit is characterized by peace. … The peace of Christmas is ‘the peace of God, which passeth all understanding’ [Philippians 4:7]. It is the peace that the Apostle Paul promised would ‘keep [our] hearts and minds through Christ Jesus’ [Philippians 4:7]. And Paul was right. That peace we seek is only through and because of Jesus Christ.”

—President Henry B. Eyring, Second Counselor in the First Presidency

The most glorious Christmas announcement:

Isaiah 9:6: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

I remember as a young girl, our ward would do a live, outdoor, nativity. I was Mary one year – and literally rode a live Donkey! There was a live audio that told the Christmas story and right at the end the narrator’s voice boomed with Isaiah 9:6. I loved it. It was so powerful. It was my favourite part of the nativity. I loved all His titles. I loved knowing that he was the Prince of Peace.

And finally, my 3 scriptures:

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

2 Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

I love all scriptures that refer to peace as I think it is one emotion/state of mind and of being that makes me feel the closest to Christ.

Zandra‘s 3 scriptures:

Mark 9:50: Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

2 Thessalonians 3:16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

Psalms 29:11 The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.

When we have peace within ourselves and with others, we can create more happiness and love in our lives. We need to have peace even when it’s hard. It gets us through.

Gabe’s extra scriptures

I’ve got 1 Cor 14:33 as well. love that scripture.

Luke 1:79 – To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

2 Timothy 2:22 – Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Sam’s extra scripture:

3 Nephi 12:3 And it came to pass that Nephi went forth among the people, and also many others, baptizing unto repentance, in the which there was a great remission of sins. And thus the people began again to have peace in the land.

Rob’s extra scriptures:

Luke 24:36: “While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’”

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (repeat:)

Zach’s extra scriptures:

D&C 19:23 aLearn of me, and listen to my words; bwalk in the cmeeknessof my Spirit, and you shall have dpeace in me.

Enos 1:6 And I, Enos, knew that God acould not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away.

Alma 58:11  Yea, and it came to pass that the Lord our God did visit us with assurances that he would deliver us; yea, insomuch that he did speak peace to our souls, and did grant unto us great faith, and did cause us that we should hope for our adeliverance in him.

12 Days of Christmas – Day 6

“On the sixth day of Christmas my Saviour gave to me” :

GUIDANCE

D & C 112:10″Be thou ahumble; and the Lord thy God shall blead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers.”

My extra scriptures:

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths

Isaiah 58:11 And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

1 Nephi 2:16 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young, nevertheless being large in stature, and also having great desires to know of the mysteries of God, wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord; and behold he did visit me, and did soften my heart that I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father; wherefore, I did not rebel against him like unto my brothers.

I love how Nephi is crying unto the Lord and his heart was softened. Our hearts have to be softened in order to receive guidance. I also love in Psals how we are to acknowledge him in all the ways – not in some or a few ways – but all – and he will direct us

Gabe’s extra scriptures

Psalms 25:6 – The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

1 Nephi 16:30 – And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did go forth up into the top of the mountain, according to the direction which were given upon the ball.

D&C 6:14 – Verily, verily, I say unto thee, blessed art thou for what thou hast done; for thou hast inquired of me, and behold, as often as thou hast inquired thou hast received instruction of my Spirit. If it had not been so, thou wouldst not have come to the place where thou art at this time.

I tie guidance strongly with humility. We can only be directed or guided when we want to, it’s so important for our growth as disciples. It may seem like counterproductive or a hit to your ego to be told guidance that you may not agree with. However, the ego punch may be a sign that you should listen and give the advice a chance.

Shannon’s extra scriptures:

Psalm 25:9
The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Mosiah 2:36
And now, I say unto you, my brethren, that after ye have known and have been taught all these things, if ye should transgress and go contrary to that which has been spoken, that ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit of the Lord, that it may have no place in you to guide you in wisdom’s paths that ye may be blessed, prospered, and preserved

Rob’s extra scriptures

Psalm 119:65-72 Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O Lord, according unto thy word.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.
68 Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes.
69 The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart.
70 Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in thy law.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.
72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

I am a child of God

Lead me, guide me, walk beside me,
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with him someday.

Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Zach’s extra scriptures

1 Nephi 17:13 And I will also be your alight in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the bpromised land; and ye shall cknow that it is by me that ye are led.

Alma 13:28-30 And ye also know that they were fed with amanna in the wilderness. 29 Yea, and ye also know that Moses, by his word according to the power of God which was in him, asmote the rock, and there came forth water, that the children of Israel might quench their thirst. 30 And notwithstanding they being led, the Lord their God, their Redeemer, going before them, aleading them by day and giving light unto them by night, and doing all things for them which were bexpedient for man to receive, they hardened their hearts and blinded their minds, and creviled against Moses and against the true and living God.

Acts 16:6-10 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the aHoly Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. And a avision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. 10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

Ether 2:25 And behold, I prepare you against these things; for ye cannot cross this great deep save I prepare you against the waves of the sea, and the winds which have gone forth, and the floods which shall come. Therefore what will ye that I should prepare for you that ye may have light when ye are swallowed up in the depths of the sea?

12 Days of Christmas – Day 5

“On the fifth day of Christmas my Saviour gave to me” :

HOPE

Ether 12:4″Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with asuretybhope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which chope cometh of dfaith, maketh an eanchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in fgood works, being led to gglorify God.”

Here are my extra 3 scriptures:

Hebrews 6:19  Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

2 Nephi 31:20; Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.

Moroni 8:26  And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saintsshall dwell with God.

There are also so many great quotes about hope. I chose a very simple, practical one – “Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today”

Gabe’s extra scriptures

Proverbs 14:32 – The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

D&C 4:5 – And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eeye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work.

D&C 42:45 – Thou shalt live together in love, insomuch that thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die, and more especially for those that have not hope of a glorious resurrection.

Hope is seen a weakness in today’s world, if we don’t appear to know exactly what’s going on and not going on you seem like you’re on the back foot relative to everyone else. This is not true however, and without hope, it would hard to worldly justify any endeavour, let alone something hard.

Sam’s extra scripture

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope
